On Wednesday, National Organization for Marriage’s Communications Director, Thomas Peters, made this bizarre statement on NOM’s blog:

Prop 8 remains the law in CA. Clerks have been ordered to ignore it.

Perhaps NOM did attempt to “order” the clerks to ignore the court order that allowed same-sex marriages to resume in California, but that hasn’t stopped clerks from issuing marriage licenses to hundreds of loving, committed same-sex couples since the Supreme Court’s ruling in late June.

The plaintiffs in the Prop 8 case, Kris Perry & Sandy Stier and Paul Katami & Jeff Zarrillo, have already married.  In California.  As have hundreds of other couples.

Reports are that some county clerks’ marriage slots are scheduled out until mid-August due to a huge backlog of same-sex couples who had to wait almost five years while the legal process ran its course.
