I apologize for my candor but there is just no other way to put this.
Todd Starnes, a reporter for Fox News, is a disgusting propaganda artist. He is a liar of the first order who can’t tell the truth even when he flatulates.
What has set me off, you ask? This shamefully inaccurate piece he wrote recently defending the anti-gay hate group the American Family Association.
Several dozen U.S. Army active duty and reserve troops were told last week that the American Family Association, a well-respected Christian ministry, should be classified as a domestic hate group because the group advocates for traditional family values.
The briefing was held at Camp Shelby in Mississippi and listed the AFA alongside domestic hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazis, the Black Panthers and the Nation of Islam.
. . . I contacted the Pentagon for an answer but they referred me to Army public affairs. And so far – they haven’t returned my calls.
And their claim that the classifications are “isolated” is not washing with AFA.
“The American Family Association has received numerous accounts of military installations as well as law enforcement agencies using a list compiled by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which wrongfully identifies and defames AFA,” reads a statement they sent me.
Bryan Fischer hosts a talk show on American Family Radio. He called the Army’s allegations “libelous, slanderous and blatantly false.”
“This mischaracterization of AFA is reprehensible and inexcusable,” he told me. “We have many military members who are a part of the AFA network who know these accusations are a tissue of lies.”
Fischer said their views on gay marriage and homosexuality are not hate – it’s simply a disagreement.
While I condensed Starnes’ propaganda piece, I did not omit anything which crucially changes the gist of the story. Starnes is claiming that the Army is unfairly attacking the AFA as a hate group. His article is a one-sided piece of clap trap which Starnes should be ashamed of writing IF he had any modicum of journalistic integrity. And the proof of that is who he chose to get a quote from representing the AFA – Bryan Fischer. Fischer is probably the main reason why SPLC and the Army (if Starnes’ accusations are true. He does have a habit of lying in his articles) consider the AFA a hate group.
It’s interesting to me that Starnes omitted several things about Fischer, such as when he said that gays created the Nazi Party:
or that homosexuality should be criminalized:
or that gay sex is like terrorism:
And if those video clips aren’t enough for you, then consider the following “lovely” comments. Fischer has:
says gay people must be criminalized and treated like drug addicts; even asks (at 2:29): “Do you put them to death, do you lock ’em up…what do you do?”
directly links homosexuality to pedophilia and bestiality: “We should discriminate against unnatural and aberrant sexual behavior, whether pedophilia, bestiality, or homosexuality.”
said that by overturning the Defense of Marriage Act and throwing marriage back to California, the Supreme Court is “doing to us what the Nazis did to the Jews”
Simple disagreement my ass.
Regardless of how Fischer tries to deceive about his rhetoric, it goes beyond simple disagreement. It’s hatred pure and simple. But Fischer is predictable. He is a transparent loon. What bothers me and what should bother us all, is Starnes’ attempt to cover up for AFA and Fischer.
It’s sad, really.
By publishing trash as legitimate journalism, Starnes seems to think that he is defending Christianity but the Christianity I know never has to be defended via the ugly tactics of lies and the sin of omission. Starnes probably does more to harm the credibility of Christianity than he realizes.
At the very least, I envision Jesus looking down from Heaven and telling God, “I know I did not get whipped, had a crown of thorns jammed on my head, and crucified so that this fool can tell these lies in my name.”
